At WSA, we believe racing should be both competitive and fun. Our club races are designed to be spirited but welcoming environments where sailors can challenge themselves while enjoying time on the water. Whether you're a seasoned racer or just discovering the thrill of competition, you'll find a supportive community that celebrates improvement as much as victory.
Experience the excitement of racing at Webster Sailing Association
Racing Overview

Webster Sailing Association offers a vibrant racing program that combines competitive sailing with camaraderie and skill development. Whether you're an experienced racer or new to the starting line, our races provide opportunities for sailors of all levels to enjoy the thrill of competition on Webster Lake.
Our racing program features various formats including fleet racing, pursuit races, and special regattas throughout the season. We utilize a handicap system that allows different boat classes to compete fairly against each other.
Philosphy
Learning is central to our racing program. We actively encourage knowledge sharing between experienced and novice racers in all aspects of competitive sailing—from boat maintenance and sail tuning to racing tactics and rules. Our more seasoned members take pride in mentoring newcomers, ensuring the traditions and skills of racing are passed along to the next generation of sailors.
Good sportsmanship remains at the heart of our racing culture. We value fair play, respect for competitors, and integrity on the water above all else. While we all enjoy the competitive aspect of racing, WSA members understand that the greatest reward comes from the camaraderie, skill development, and shared experiences that make our racing program special.
Steps to Start Racing
F.A.Q.s
"You haven't won the race, if in winning the race you have lost the respect of your competitors." - Paul Evstrom
Race Committee & Race Management
Our races are organized and run by volunteer members of the WSA Race Committee. Serving on race committee is a great way to learn more about racing and contribute to the club.
Race Committee Responsibilities
The Race Committee is responsible for setting courses, running starts, monitoring races, finishing boats, and scoring. No experience is necessary to volunteer—we provide training and always pair new volunteers with experienced members.
Race Courses
WSA typically uses windward-leeward or triangle courses depending on conditions. Course diagrams and descriptions are available in our Sailing Instructions.
